UC Davis Bio-Digester Nitrogen Extraction System for Digestate

Originally installed by Clean world in 2014, and purchased by UC Davis in 2017, the UC Davis Bio-digester allows for a comprehensive organic waste disposal program for the campus, generating electricity from methane gas formed from the digestion of organic wastes.

AEM was contracted to install the first commercial system for digestate nitrogen recovery capable of producing agricultural-grade nitrogen fertilizers from thermal distillation. The innovative technology was installed at the end of 2022 and will start extracting nitrogen in June, 2023.
